It is a widespread misunderstanding that to feel the full benefits of aesthetic treatments, one must submit to the necessary procedures and bear the associated discomfort. To what extent, however, is this a necessary consequence? We do not subscribe to that philosophy at our clinic, and instead, we work hard to supply our patients with the very best care possible while minimizing any inconvenience that may be caused to them. Because of this, we can now offer ProNox as a form of pain management in our clinic.
One of the patients’ concerns is if they receive pain during the treatment, will they be able to tolerate it? Most of us, at some point, experience this concern, and it is natural for us to feel anxious whenever we anticipate some degree of pain.
Before, during, and after the procedure, medical facilities are obligated to their patients to put them in a state of complete comfort. Only then can they expect the process to go off without a hitch. A brand-new sedation system known as ProNox, designed to keep patients at ease through their treatments, is now available to clinics thanks to recent advancements that made it possible for these facilities to use the system.
What Is ProNox?
During your non-invasive cosmetic treatments, you may experience some pain or discomfort. The ProNox sedation system uses nitrous oxide and oxygen analgesic properties to help alleviate any pain or discomfort you may be feeling. The gas composition comprises nitrogen and oxygen in an equal and balanced ratio, 50/50.
Although it may help alleviate pain and discomfort, it is not a suitable replacement for anesthesia. Instead, the ProNox system simply makes lidocaine-based local anesthetics more effective.
Why Our Clinic Uses ProNox System
Patients have typically been prescribed pain meds, painkillers, or topical pain relievers to alleviate their pain and discomfort. The disadvantage of these medications is that it may take up to half an hour to start working, and it may take several hours before they are completely flushed out of your system. Depending on your treatment, you might need assistance getting home and require someone to drive for you.
To make the entire process as easy and stress-free as possible for both you and the provider, ProNox is now offered at a wide variety of medical spas and clinics across the country. You won’t have to wait in the clinic for an entire hour and a half—first for the anesthesia to take effect, then for it to leave your system altogether—and neither of those things is required.
As soon as you take a few good, deep breaths, you’ll notice a decrease in the severity of your discomfort feelings. As a bonus, you can control how much and when you inhale, allowing you to manage yourself per your needs. When you inhale the gas, you will experience a reduction in pain, but you will not lose consciousness.
Why Does ProNox System Use Nitrous Oxide?
Nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas with a faint, sweet aroma. While we don’t normally breathe this gas, it has little effect on the respiratory system, and it is a potent analgesic and anxiolytic agent that reduces pain and induces euphoria.
Nitrous oxide is commonly used as an inhalation anesthetic in dentistry, emergency rooms, and outpatient surgery centers, and you can see it in some of these facilities today. As a standalone anesthetic, it is unable to produce general anesthesia reliably. However, when used alone, it’s incredibly safe and effective for mild to moderate sedation during routine oral surgery procedures for patients afraid of anesthesia.
Sedation with nitrous oxide-oxygen always begins and ends with the patient receiving 100% oxygen. After that, the patient was given more and more permission to breathe normally. Most patients can tolerate a flow rate of between 5 and 6 L/min.
After examining the reservoir bag, the flow rate can be modified. The bag shouldn’t be over- or under-inflated and should have a light, rhythmic pulsation with each breath. It is recommended to introduce oxygen at a concentration of one hundred percent for one to two minutes, followed by titration of nitrous oxide in ten percent steps.
During nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia or anxiety reduction, the concentration of N2O should never routinely be allowed to exceed 50 percent—only increasing the amount of N2O utilized until the desired effect is achieved.
The patient must be reminded to breathe through their nose for the gas to be effective. It is essential to ask about the patient’s well-being before dosing them with nitrous oxide to ensure that the appropriate amount is administered.
Is It Safe?
Nitrous oxide is commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” although it does not cause people to laugh. Instead, nitrous oxide will help you relax because it will slow down the activity of your nervous system. As a consequence of this gas, you might experience feelings of lightheadedness, tingling, or even heaviness in your arms or legs. At the end of the day, you will experience a sense of ease and relaxation throughout the process. You might even find yourself chuckling to yourself every once in a while.
The use of nitrous oxide as a sedation method is preferred in dental offices and medical clinics because it is safe and effective. It is possible to quickly undo the effects of laughing gas by taking deep breaths of pure oxygen while wearing a mask. What’s more, the nitrous oxide will not put you to sleep, which means that you can listen and react to any questions or instructions that the aesthetic provider may have for you during the procedure.
Takeaway
Thanks to the ProNox system, you can experience your aesthetic treatment hassle-free of any pain and discomfort. On top of that, the sedation from the gas takes a few short minutes to work, reducing the amount of time you have to spend in a clinic.
